Transnistria is a narrow strip of 4,163 km2, squeezed between Ukraine and the Dniester River - from which derives its name - with Tiraspol as its capital.
Its population, estimated at 470,600 inhabitants (according to the 2016 census), is divided between:
- 34% of Russian
- 32% of Moldovans
- 30% of Ukrainians
- 4% of other ethnicities / nationalities
